Indian cricketer KL Rahul and Sanjiv Goenka, owner of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), were centers of debate for a long time during the IPL 2024. The controversy erupted after the LSG suffered a heavy defeat of 10 wickets in an IPL 2024 game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

After the SRH chased down a target of 166 in just 9.4 overs against the LSG, Goenka lost his cool and wasn’t hesitant before bursting out his anger at the skipper, Rahul. The LSG owner was caught on camera having a heated conversation with Rahul, quickly becoming a major discussion among fans and cricket experts. However, the duo denied any dispute between them.

Following the incident, many believed that Rahul would leave the LSG or that the franchise would not retain the Indian batter as the skipper for the upcoming IPL 2025.

Later, media reports suggested that the LSG is unlikely to retain the right-hander as captain and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is keen to stage their former batter’s comeback for the next season.

A Dainik Jagran report claimed that all is not well between Rahul and the LSG. The Karnataka star is not interested in being with the Lucknow-based franchise after leading them to back-to-back playoff finishes in their first two IPL seasons in 2022 and 2023.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricketer recently appeared on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast alongside Bollywood diva Kriti Sanon and rapper Badshah. On the podcast, Rahul has indirectly sent a strong message to the LSG owner Goenka, and other franchise owners regarding their high expectations.

Rahul has ignited a storm in the IPL world with his scorching statement, as he took a direct shot at franchisee owners. The LSG skipper has criticized the approach of using data and research to select players, asserting that it doesn’t guarantee success on the field.

Every player can have a bad day in sports: Rahul

He highlighted that even the best players can have bad days while sending his message to Goenka that the data-driven decisions made by owners might not always lead to winning results.

KL Rahul said on the Nikhil Kamath podcast: “Owners coming from business backgrounds in IPL do research and pick the team, but it doesn’t guarantee that you will win every game. You might get the best player based on data, but they might have a horrible year. Every player can have a bad day in sports.”

Meanwhile, Rahul has established himself as a prominent figure in Indian cricket. He is known for his elegant batting, resilience, and versatile skills. Despite facing injuries and fluctuations in form, Rahul remains a crucial asset for Team India, especially in Tests and ODI cricket.

The Indian wicketkeeper batter will be soon seen in action in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19 in Chennai. However, some reports claimed that he is unlikely to play as a wicketkeeper for India in the upcoming home Tests against Bangladesh.
