Excise Dept, Police Intensify Crackdown On Illicit Liquor Trade In Odisha | Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Excise department intensified its drive against illicit liquor trade after the death of two villagers in the Chikiti area in Ganjam district after consuming hooch early this week. Excise department personnel and police raided a liquor den on Balisira hills in Ganjam district and destroyed 4.500 litres of fermented liquor and 100 litres of country liquor along with other items used to produce spurious liquor.

At the same time, police arrested a person from Bira Narayanpur under K Nuagaon police limits for smuggling illegal country liquor. The accused was nabbed while he was going to Ganjam from Gajapati on his motorcycle and seized 80 litres of country liquor from his possession.

In another incident, the police raided an illegal liquor hub run by a woman at Arakhakuda village under Krushna Prasad block in Puri and seized 4,000 litres of hooch. A case has been registered in this connection.

It is worth mentioning here that the Commissionerate Police bulldozed three illegal liquor units at Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar on Saturday and seized huge quantities of country liquor.
