Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Was someone guarding the door of the seminar hall at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital while the trainee doctor was being raped and tortured inside? How was ghastly crime perpetrated without any hindrance, and why did nobody hear the victim’s cries of agony when she was being abused?

These are some of mysteries being probed by the CBI as the agency’s officers discovered that the tower bolt of the seminar’s hall’s door was broken.

The CBI, which is investigating the August 9 rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at the RG Kar Hospital, is trying to determine how the accused carried out the crime in the seminar hall without any hindrance or disturbance.

Was someone standing guard?

The central agency is also probing if someone was stationed outside the door as a “guard” while the accused, Sanjay Roy, raped and killed the victim.

CBI investigators, who found the tower bolt of the door broken, are wondering why nobody could hear any sound coming from inside the seminar hall when the victim was being tortured.

“The tower bolt was broken, which caused the door to malfunction. We are probing whether anyone was stationed outside to act as a guard while the crime was committed,” PTI quoted a CBI officer as saying, adding the CCTV footage is being scanned to confirm their suspicions.

Door malfunction prevented victim from locking it

The officer, citing initial findings, said it seems the seminar hall door had been malfunctioning for some time because of the broken tower bolt.

He said the the victim entered the hall between 2 AM and 3 AM on August 9 and a doctor on duty reported seeing her asleep inside the hall.

“Interviews with doctors, interns, and junior doctors revealed that the door’s malfunction had been a known issue, which prevented the victim from locking the door that night,” he added.

Meanwhile, the agency on Friday continued grilling former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh, in connection with the case.

Additionally, the CBI presented the arrested suspect, Sanjay Roy, in court, which sent him to 14-day jail custody.
