Weather update: Heavy rainfall warning for Tripura, Maharashtra, Gujarat | Check IMD forecast

The IMD has predicted rainfall in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh during the week. Rainfall warning has also been issued for Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa.

IMD weather forecast and rain alert

New Delhi: Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall during the next two days, owing to low pressure area over north Bangladesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. The weather department has also forecast heavy rainfall in Gujarat and Maharashtra from August 24 to 27.

“Low pressure area over north Bangladesh likely to cause very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Assam & Meghalaya and Tripura during next 2 days. Enhanced rainfall activity with very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat and Maharashtra during 24th to 27th August,” the IMD said in its latest weather forecast.

Meanwhile, incessant rainfall and landslides in Tripura has wreaked havoc in the state, killing 22 people. As many as 65,400 people have taken shelter at 450 relief camps in the state as their houses were damaged due to the downpour. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places in Tripura on Thursday and Friday. In view of the inclement weather condition, all educational institutions across the state will remain shut till Friday, an official order said.

Rain forecast for these states

The IMD has also predicted rainfall in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh during the week. “Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Uttarakhand during next 7 days, East Uttar Pradesh during 23rd – 26th; East Rajasthan during 23rd – 27th August; West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan during 23rd– 25th. Isolated very heavy rainfall also very likely over Uttarakhand on 23rd; East Rajasthan on 25th August,” the Met department said.

Rainfall warning has also been issued for Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa. According to the IMD, Chhattisgarh will receive heavy rainfall till August 24, Maharashtra, Goa and Madhya Pradesh till August 26. “Isolated extremely heavy rainfall” is predicted in Gujarat during 24th-26th August and in Madhya Pradesh on 25th and 26th August.

Besides, rainfall is also predicted in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during this week. While Arunachal Pradesh is likely to receive rainfall on August 23 and 28, heavy downpour may lash Bihar till August 24, Odisha till August 25 and Jharkhand till August 26, according to IMD. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall on August 25.

According to weather office, Karnataka may witness heavy rainfall on August 25 and 26. Rainfall is also predicted in
Telangana till August 24 an Kerala till August 26.
