Bhubaneswar: An hour of intense rainfall resulted in waterlogging across various areas of Smart City Bhubaneswar, disrupting daily life on Thursday.

The National Highway 16 near the Iskcon temple resembled a pond due to the waterlogging, trapping several vehicles in the floodwaters. This led to a halt in vehicle movement for hours, causing significant traffic jams.

“A recurring waterlogging issue near the Iskcon temple and other city areas, due to inadequate drainage planning, needs resolution for the welfare of the city’s residents,” a commuter remarked.

The heavy downpour also caused waterlogging in many other city parts. Bikers sought refuge under flyovers between Baramunda and Rasulgarh, leading to traffic congestion at these busy intersections.

In addition, overflowing drains submerged roads in numerous sections of the Capital City.

“Without proactive measures from the administration to prevent waterlogging, residents are experiencing severe disruptions in their daily commute. Driving on the roads has become a cause for concern,” another commuter expressed.

Several commuters criticized the administration for its failure to effectively manage the water overflow on the roads.
