Online complaints for stolen cars and mobiles getting ‘encouraging response’: Nagaland Police

Dimapur, July 25 (MExN): The Nagaland Police today stated that the online complaints submission system for stolen vehicles and lost or stolen mobile phones, which it recently launched, has been receiving an “encouraging response” from the general public.

The State police officially announced the launch of the system on July 22, and within approximately four days, information on 36 lost or stolen mobiles and 8 stolen cars was received.

“Thank you for the encouraging response. We have so far received information on 36 lost/stolen mobiles and 8 stolen vehicles,” the police stated in a social media update.

The Nagaland Police also warned and advised the general public “not to buy second-hand mobiles or vehicles to avoid legal troubles and the risk of losing the stolen goods if caught by police.”

Updating on the online submission of complaints on July 22, the police assured to take timely action and proper supervision of such cases and the recovery of stolen or lost vehicles or mobile phones.

In due course, a database will be created that the public can access and check online before buying second-hand items, which in itself will be a deterrent for theft, it added.

Reporting stolen vehicle or phone online
According to the police, complaints can be submitted separately for vehicles and mobile phones via Google Forms, a free online productivity tool as part of the Google Docs Editors suite.

•    Provide details about vehicle (type, colour, Registration, Chassis and Engine No etc)
•    Upload a picture of vehicle registration document.
•    Approximate time of theft 
•    Copy of police report (optional); to claim insurance, physical complaint with the police is required

•    Provide phone’s IMEI number (a unique identifier).
•    Phone number of lost SIM card.
•    Phone’s brand and model number

For both cases, a valid Gmail account is required, and the complainant must provide some personal details and ID proof in the forms.

These forms are designed as questionnaires, guiding the complainant through the submission process. Once all fields are filled, click the “Submit” option to register the complaint.

Complaints are either monitored in real-time or the Nagaland Police can set up email notifications to receive alerts each time a form is submitted.
