The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating that a low-pressure area over southern Bangladesh is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to East and Eastcentral India over the next three days. Additionally, isolated regions across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep are likely to experience similar intense rainfall during the same period. 

North India weather forecast

This week, Northwest India is set for varied rainfall patterns. Light to moderate rain is expected over Uttarakhand and East Uttar Pradesh, with scattered to fairly widespread showers in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and West Uttar Pradesh. Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and Rajasthan will see isolated to scattered showers. Heavy rainfall is predicted for Jammu division on August 20, Himachal Pradesh from August 20 to 21, and Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh from August 20 to 23. Uttarakhand may also experience very heavy rain on August 20, while Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh will face heavy rainfall on August 20 and 21, and East Rajasthan from August 22 to 25.

West and Central India weather

West and Central India will experience widespread light to moderate rainfall this week, with central India, Konkan & Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra seeing fairly consistent precipitation. Marathwada and Gujarat State will have scattered to fairly widespread showers. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Madhya Pradesh from August 20 to 21 and 23 to 25, Vidarbha from August 23 to 25, Chhattisgarh on August 20, and 23 to 25, Konkan & Goa throughout the week, Madhya Maharashtra on August 20, 24, and 25, and Gujarat Region on August 20 and 21.

These regions are forecasted to see fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall this week, with consistent precipitation expected over eastern regions, Assam, Meghalaya, and the northeastern states. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and Jharkhand from August 20 to 23, Odisha on August 20, and 23, and Arunachal Pradesh on August 20, 22, and 23. Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Gangetic West Bengal on August 20, Bihar on August 21, Jharkhand on August 21 and 22, and Assam and Meghalaya on August 20.

South India weather forecast

South Peninsular India is expected to see fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall this week, affecting Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Coastal Karnataka, with isolated to scattered showers in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Interior Karnataka.
