Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance has unearthed assets worth crores belonging to Sunil Kumar Rout, Chief Construction Engineer of the Lower Suktel Project in Bolangir, and his family members during searches at nine locations today,

The movable and immovable assets include one triple-storeyed building at Niladri Vihar, Chandrasekharpur approx 5800 Sqft area & one double-storeyed building at Nilakantha Nagar, Nayapali, approx 2300 Sqft area in Bhubaneswar; a 2-BHK Flat at Sikhetra Bhakta Niwas, Dolamandapsahi & a 1-BHK Flat at Krishnadham Apartment, VIP road in Puri; 34 plots of which 5 in Bhubaneswar, 3 in Puri, 19 in Cuttack, and 7 in Dhenkanal.

“The measurement and valuation/assessment of the buildings, flats, and plots is being carried out by Technical Wing,” the Vigilance said.

Apart from this,  Rs.2,34,120 in cash, Gold ornaments weighing approx 176 gms and silver approx 500 gms, one Truck (TATA LPT), two ‘benami’ four wheelers (Hyundai Creta & Mahindra Thar) and four two-wheelers worth Rs.37,36,597, household articles worth about Rs.15 Lakhs were also detected by the Vigilance.

“The accused, Sunil Kumar Rout, Chief Construction Engineer of Lower Suktel Project, Bolangir is being examined to ascertain the source of the assets. Further searches are continuing. Assessment of Investments and Savings is still to be completed. Verification of purchase of assets outside the state is being made. Unearthing of more assets is likely and overall valuation is likely to increase,” the Vigilance Directorate said.

On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income, Vigilance sleuths launched simultaneous house searches on the properties of Er Rout, at 9 places in Bhubaneswar (Khordha), Puri, Angul, Cuttack districts and his office chamber at Bolangir.

“Nine teams of Odisha Vigilance comprising 2 Addl. SPs, 8 DSPs, 6 Inspectors, 10 ASIs and other supporting staff are conducting the searches on the strength of Search Warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. Searches are continuing,” the Vigilance added.
