Weather in India Today: Hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to witness heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms on Tuesday. Rainy weather is also predicted for West Bengal, northeastern states of Assam and Meghalaya and the southern part of the country.

New Delhi: Rains are likely to continue across north India and southern parts of the country on Tuesday. According to the latest weather updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Uttarakhand, West Bengal, northeastern states of India and also some parts of South India.

Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab to see heavy rains

According to weather predictions for Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive heavy rainfall. The rains can be anything between less than or equal to 7 cm. In central India also conditions would be more or less the same. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are also likely to receive heavy rains.

The northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will also witness rains on Tuesday. In western India, Maharashtra, Goa and Konkan coast, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Karnataka (including coastal and south interior Karnataka) are likely to receive rains.

The hilly states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are likely to witness at least 12 cm of rains on Tuesday. Rains will be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, said the weather forecast. Similar is the case for Gangetic West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Squally weather in western India

If rains will be accompanied by thunderstorms in northern India, the western parts of the country will see windy and squally weather. Wind speeds are likely to reach, 35 to 45 kmph in many parts of westcentral Arabian sea, along and off south Konkan and Goa coast. Similar conditions will be prevalent along the Karnataka and Kerala coasts in south India.

Lakshadweep, Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar, many parts of southwest and west central Bay of Bengal will also witness high wind speeds. Gusting winds are also likely over north Bay of Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha coasts. The west central Arabian Sea and western parts of southwest Arabian Sea will see even higher wind speeds at 45 to 55 kmph, which are likely to go up to 65 kmph. The agencies have advised people not to venture into the sea, especially fishermen, given the weather forecast.
