Guwahati: The Assam government has started issuing birth certificates and Aadhaar cards to newborns at all its medical colleges in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

He said that birth certificate and Aadhaar enrolment centres have been established in all medical colleges across Assam.

“In Assam, we have begun a new process of issuing birth certificates and Aadhar cards to newborns at our Medical Colleges on the occasion of 78th Independence Day,” the Assam Chief Minister wrote on X on Friday.

The centres in 12 medical colleges were inaugurated on the 78th Independence Day.

He further said, “This step will ensure hassle-free birth and Aadhar registration at our Medical colleges and is one of the decisions of our recently held DC (District Commissioner) Conference.”

Earlier on Thursday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta attended a ceremony at DC office premises in Amingaon in Kamrup district and distributed land pattas to the residents of four villages in Barbangshar Mouza, located within the North Guwahati Revenue Circle of Kamrup district.

It may be noted that Chief Minister Sarma distributed 881 land pattas, encompassing a total of 369 bighas, 2 kathas, and 10 lechas of land, to the residents of Barpalaha, Gog, Dakshin Mandakata, and Bhomolahati villages in Barbangshar Mouza.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister highlighted that the lack of land pattas presents significant challenges, including depriving many individuals of fair compensation during land acquisition processes and hindering their ability to secure bank loans and other benefits.
