Lucknow: Chaos ensued at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International (CCSI) Airport after suspected leakage of a radioactive material from a medical equipment. It later turned out that fluorine, used in the treatment of cancer, transported daily from the airport’s cargo department, was in excess quantity today, the machine detected it and sounded the alarm.

No impact on air traffic

“A consignment loaded with medicines for cancer patients activated the alarm for radioactive material in the cargo area of ​​Lucknow airport. The National Disaster Response Force called in to find out the cause of the alarm responded to the consignment. It has been declared safe. There are no casualties and there is no threat to life or property. There is no impact on air traffic,” a CCSI airport spokesperson said.

Earlier there were reports of two staff members getting unconscious and around 1.5km area around the airport being evacuated after the alleged leak.

The incident was reported in the cargo area of Terminal 3 from where it was being transported.
