A senior police officer said that bomb disposal squads have been sent to all the locations identified by ULFA (I), but no bombs or explosives have been recovered. In an email to media outlets, including PTI, the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) (Independent) claimed the bombs had failed to detonate due to “technical failure.”

The group provided a list specifying the exact locations of 19 bombs and mentioned that the locations of five additional explosives were uncertain. They urged the public to assist in defusing the bombs.

When reached for comment, a senior officer at Assam Police headquarters told PTI that all district SPs, particularly those named by the anti-peace talk faction of ULFA, have been notified and instructed to conduct a comprehensive search of the areas.

“Bomb disposal squads, metal detectors and sniffer dogs have been dispatched to every location. So far we have not got any information on recovery of bombs,” he added.

Some local police officials in Nagaon, Lakhimpur, and Sivasagar reported finding “bomb-like materials” at several of the locations. Among the 24 identified locations, eight are in Guwahati.

These include an open field at Last Gate in Dispur, near the official residences of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other ministers. Other Guwahati sites mentioned are Satgaon Road towards the Army cantonment in Narengi, Ashram Road, Panbazar, Jorabat, Bhetapara, Maligaon, and Rajgarh.

In addition to Guwahati, ULFA (I) listed locations in Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, and Golaghat districts.

Meanwhile, police have closed all roads in and around the specified areas. Senior officers have been deployed to oversee and coordinate the search operations.
