Four more stations — Dadar, Panvel, Kandivali, and Dahisar — have been added to the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). With these additions, the ABSS now covers a total of 38 stations in the Mumbai suburban railway network. The goal of the scheme is to develop stations over time with long-term planning.
The Western Railway division already includes stations like Marine Lines, Charni Road, Grant Road, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Malad, Jogeshwari Coaching Terminal, and Palghar.
On the Mumbai division of Central Railway (CR), stations like Byculla, Chinchpokli, Parel, Matunga, Kurla, Vidyavihar, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Mumbra, Diva, Shahad, Titwala, Igatpuri, Lonavala, Wadala Road, and Sandhurst Road are part of the scheme.
The ABSS also includes non-suburban stations like Umbergaon, Sanjan, Vapi, Bilimora, Sachin, Bhestan, Bardoli, Nandurbar, Amalner, and Dharangaon.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme improves station facilities with the implementation of master plans. Some of the features include better access to stations, remodelled circulating areas, upgraded waiting areas, restrooms, elevators, escalators, free Wi-Fi, cleanliness, and kiosks for local products under the “One Station, One Product” program.
Additional facilities, such as executive lounges, corporate conference spaces, enhanced passenger information systems, and landscaping, will be added as needed.
The scheme also focusses on multimodal connectivity, facilities for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), sustainable and eco-friendly solutions, and the enhancement of station buildings. Connecting stations with city infrastructure and developing city centres near stations are also part of the plan.
So far, 1,324 stations across India have been selected under the ABSS based on recommendations from Zonal Railways and the requirements of major cities and towns.
