Kolkata RTO challans my Ford Aspire for polluting more than the limit | Team-BHP

There was no sample collected of the smoke from my car, so how was the challan issued?

From what I’ve heard from my driver is that some sort of smoke detectors have been installed near red light signals

BHPian Big Smoke recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hi BHPians, I’m (my Ford Aspire diesel) in a big problem.

My car is polluting more than the permissible levels! I have no idea about why/how it has happened. I always get my car serviced at Ford ASS and use fully synthetic engine oil.

What has happened is, the PUCC of my car was valid till 19 June 2024. But on 7 June, the Salt Lake RTO (Kolkata) issued a challan against my vehicle that it’s polluting more than the permissible limits and the RTO locked the documents. Now that the documents are locked, the PUCC can’t be renewed.

And the PUC centre technician says that “sir your car is emitting a lot of smoke, please get it checked. As it is, since the documents are locked by the RTO, your PUCC can’t be renewed until the documents locked is lifted by the RTO.” And I have got it checked from two separate PUCC centres.

Please provide me guidance BHPians, I’m in a fix!

Here’s what BHPian rahul4321 had to say about this matter:

Hopefully this helps.

By the way, the irony of your team bhp handle and the problem you are having was not lost on me.

Here’s an update by BHPian Big Smoke:

Exactly my initial thoughts. That there was no sample collected of the smoke from my car, so how was the challan issued?

From what I’ve heard from my driver (who drives the car most of the time) is that some sort of smoke detectors have been installed near red light signals, and my car happened to stand near one while waiting for the light to turn green. That’s when the smoke was detected. Again, this is from what my driver says and I’ve been unable to verify the same.

I had sent my car to Alok Automobiles Kolkata for the necessary work. Suman Da (from Alok Automobiles) being an experienced person knew the work to be done: EGR cleaning & Catalytic Convertor Cleaning, which he had confirmed on call before I sent the car to him. When I sent the car to him on Thursday morning, he sent me the following picture –

He informed me that the Flexible Joint had leaked. Further, when he would carry out the required work, this leakage could possibly aggravate. There is no solution to repair this leak and this part is not separately available in the market. He suggested that I take the car to Ford authorised service centre for replacing the part.

I sent my car to Ford authorised service centre, Kaikan Ford Kolkata, on Thursday itself. After due inspection, they’ve found multiple leaks. Hence the part needs to be replaced, which costs Rs. 26268. They’ve ordered the part and will install it tomorrow.

Further, they’ve also found that one of the engine mounts is broken, which is getting replaced as well. Part costs Rs. 4546.

Will update the thread once this work is done.
