Egg-ravating scene at anganwadi

Two Anganwadi workers faced suspension for their alleged misconduct during a midday meal in Koppal district on Friday. The workers were accused of removing eggs from children’s plates after recording videos and capturing pictures of the meal being served. The incident came to the attention of authorities when the videos circulated on social media.

As per government guidelines, eggs are a compulsory component of the midday meal provided in anganwadis and government schools. The Women and Child Development Minister, Laxmi Hebbalkar, instructed department officials to suspend the two workers and also called for the suspension of Koppal’s child development project officer, and a notice was to be issued to the deputy director of the district.

She requested a comprehensive report on the case, emphasising that Criticising the incident Sudhanva Kumar, a child rights activist, said, “This act of deception not only jeopardises the well-being of the children but also erodes public confidence in a programme designed to support the most vulnerable in our society.”-BMB
