Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Saturday urged the Union Minister for Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to enhance international connectivity to Goa to attract more
global tourists to the coastal state.

Khaunte, along with Secretary (Tourism) Sanjeev Ahuja and Tourism Director Suneel Anchipaka held a meeting with Shekhawat to discuss a range of issues aimed at enhancing tourism outcomes in the state, including Goa’s plan to adopt regenerative tourism.

Khaunte stressed the importance of increasing direct international flights and improving connectivity to major global cities, which would help Goa’s reputation as a premier tourist destination.

He also urged the Union Minister to expedite the works taken up under Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) scheme for the Basilica of Bom Jesus.

Khaunte underlined the need to align the PRASHAD project with the upcoming exposition of the sacred relics of St Francis Xavier in Goa, which is expected to draw significant international attention.

“The timely completion of this initiative would not only enhance the spiritual and cultural experience for visitors but also boost the overall tourism appeal of the state,” he said.

Khaunte also sought Centre’s support to further develop the state’s tourism infrastructure and promotional efforts.

“Both ministers acknowledged the importance of collaborative efforts to elevate Goa’s status as a world-class tourist destination. The Union Tourism Minister assured Goa of the Centre’s full support, thereby maximizing the benefits of the upcoming tourism initiatives,” said a statement issued by the Tourism Department.
