Gautam Buddha Nagar – Noida – and Ghaziabad, the two big districts of Uttar Pradesh adjacent to Delhi, are continuously expanding. After Noida, Greater Noida was established, and currently the preparations are rapidly going on to establish Greater Ghaziabad. On this issue, the Council of Ministers has approved the proposal to merge Loni and Khoda Municipal Corporation into Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation and make them a part of ‘Greater Ghaziabad’. The special thing is that the village of Noida will also be included in Greater Ghaziabad.

In this matter, officials said that this proposal related to the merger was sent by the Meerut Divisional Commissioner to the Uttar Pradesh Government on November 25 last year. In this regard, on August 5, Deputy Secretary of the Town and Country Planning Department Amitabh Srivastava sought suggestions from the Council of Ministers about the plan.

According to the Council of State Ministers, the ‘Greater Ghaziabad’ scheme will promote basic development in the city. Facilities like roads, water supply, sewer network, and lights will improve here. There will be ‘ease of doing business’ and ‘ease of living’ in Greater Ghaziabad. The ‘Greater Ghaziabad’ scheme was proposed by the Chief Minister during his visit to the city in November last year.

As per the latest report, this merger will increase the current area of the GMC by 220 square kilometres by about 30 per cent, and the population will increase by 8 lakh. This corporation with 100 wards will include 55 wards of Loni and 34 wards of Khoda, which will make the total number of wards 189.

For the unversed, the UP government has recently decided to build a new colony called Harnandipuram, which is spread over about 1,300 acres and will be the size of Indirapuram.

The GDA, in its board meeting, headed by the divisional commissioner (Meerut), approved a proposal for developing a new residential township on 541 hectares at an estimated cost of about Rs 5,000 crore.

According to GDA officials, since the new township will be developed near the Hindon River, locally called Harnandi, will be named Harnadnipuram. The new township is also being referred to as Naya Ghaziabad or New Ghaziabad.

Officials said that the Uttar Pradesh government will share 50 per cent of the project cost while the remaining will be sourced by the Authority.
