Subroto Cup: Nagaland Junior Girls U-17 team misses quarterfinals by a whisker

New Delhi, August 8 (MExN):The Nagaland Junior Girls Under-17 team  secured an emphatic 5-1 victory  over Sainik School, Sambalpur in their final Pool G match of the Subroto Cup 2024 but the team narrowly missed out on a quarter-final berth due to goal difference.

During the last match at BR Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi on August 8,  Nagaland’s Mhalo netted four goals, while Akhrienuo added one as Nagaland finished second in Pool G with seven points, level with toppers NCC Mizoram. However, Mizoram qualified for the quarterfinals due to superior goals. 

‘As per the State DIPR, Team Manager for Nagaland U, William Koso expressed his appreciation of the team’s performance and highlighted the valuable experience gained from the tournament. 

Nagaland had earlier defeated Airforce School New Delhi 2-0 and drawn 0-0 with NCC Mizoram.

The Nagaland team was represented by Government High School Mereima led by N Bijim Konyak and the team manager is Koso.

The players representing Nagaland were huvekulu, Rokothono, Kekhriekuono, Xangyoa Konyak, Khuloi, Keviphenuo Semou, Khrieletuono, Mhalo, Peteneinuo Khoubve, Leye L, Sangki N, Medovinuo, Kekhrieseno, Medozhano, Tsureishe, and Nounevino.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Coach Bijim said that she was satisfied with team’s performance and mentioned that they had given everything to win the matches

She also appreciated the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for providing the team with the opportunity to perform outside the state and expressed hope that with more experience, the players would perform better in the coming years.

Earlier the U-17 Nagaland boys also remained undefeated with two draw and two win but Manipur moved ahead to semifinals round of the junior national football championship on better results.
