Weather Forecast and Warning by IMD today: An orange alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh of heavy to very heavy rainfall following days of heavy downpours in the oast week that led to flash floods and landslides. Monsoon is also predicted to be remain active in other parts of north India and state like Gujarat, Mahrashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala causing rains. New Delhi: The ongoing wet spell of the southwest monsoon will continue over parts of north India with parts of the region predicted to receive widespread light to moderate rains along with thunderstorms during the week even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh that is still recovering from flash floods and landslides triggered by cloudbursts last week that killed 14 people.

In Himachal Pradesh, thunderstorms and lightning have been predicted over isolated places in Una, Sirmaur and Kangra districts on Wednesday and a ‘yellow’ alert for heavy rains in the state till August 9.

Here’s state-wise weather prediction by IMD today:

North India

In its daily forecast, the IMD has predicted fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan while states such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are likely to receive widespread rainfall during the week.

Further elaborating, the weather bulletin predicted extremely heavy rainfall likely over east and west Rajasthan on August 8 and 9, on August 7 in Himachal Pradesh and from August 6 to 9 in Uttarakhand.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Jammu-Kashmir on the 6th, 7th, 10th, and 11th of August; Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan from the 5th to the 11th; Haryana-Chandigarh from the 6th to the 8th; Punjab from the 5th to the 7th; and West Uttar Pradesh on the 6th and 7th of August.

West and Central India

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is very likely over the Konkan & Goa and Gujarat regions throughout the week. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Saurashtra & Kutch during the week.

Very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over the Gujarat region and Madhya Maharashtra on the 5th of August.

Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh from the 5th to the 9th of August; East Madhya Pradesh on the 7th and 8th; Chhattisgarh from the 5th to the 7th; Konkan & Goa from the 5th to the 10th; Madhya Maharashtra and the Gujarat region from the 5th to the 9th; and Saurashtra & Kutch on the 5th of August.

East and northeast India

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is very likely over East and Northeast India throughout the week.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura from the 5th to the 10th of August; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on the 5th and 6th of August; and Odisha on the 7th of August.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Bihar and Odisha from the 5th to the 8th of August; Jharkhand on the 6th and 7th; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on the 7th and 8th; and Gangetic West Bengal on the 6th of August.

South India

Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka, with isolated to scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema during the next 5 days.

Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu on and over Kerala and Coastal Karnataka today.
