DIMAPUR/MOKOKCHUNG, AUGUST 7 (MExN): The Nagaland Athletics Association along with the rest of India commemorated the 3rd National Javelin Day on 7th of August 2024 in collaboration with 8 district athletics of Nagaland. The competition was organized in Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Noklak, Peren, Shamator and Wokha.

National Javelin Day is also celebrated to honour and promote the sports of javelin throw and to acknowledge its significance in athletics. At the same time inspiring young athletes and sports enthusiasts to engage in javelin throwing and other track and field events, a press release issued by Nagaland Athletics Association informed. 

Winners of the Javelin competition for young athletes in the category of U- 12, U-14 and U-16 for Boys & Girls from Chümoukedima District with organizers and special guests on August 7 at 1st NAP Ground, Chümoukedima. 

The celebration was marked with athletes participating in the javelin competition organized for boys & girls of age group –U-12, U-14 & U-16. A total of 650 plus athletes across Nagaland participated in the competition. 

In the state capital, the Kohima District Athletics Association (KDAA) in collaboration with Nagaland Athletics organized the National Javelin Day on August 7 at T.M Higher Secondary School ground, Kohima. The event speaker was Khriehuto Tsira, Senior Vice President, Nagaland Athletics shared that the National Javelin Day is being observed all over India to serve as a meaningful tribute to the remarkable achievement of Neeraj Chopra during the Tokyo Olympics where he secured the Gold Medal for India, a press release from the KDAA stated.

In Chümoukedima, the Chümoukedima Athletics Association (CAA) in collaboration with Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA) organized the javelin competition for young athletes in the category of U- 12, U-14 and U-16 for Boys& Girls from Chümoukedima District on August 7 at 1st NAP Ground. 

The event was graced by Mhonsao Ngullie, Honorary Secretary, Nagaland Athletics Association as the inaugural guest, while Naga Olympian Chekrovolu Swuro was the guest for the closing event.

Similarly, in Dimapur, the event was organized by Dimapur Athletics under the aegis of Nagaland Athletics and was held at Pilgrim Hr Sec School. Total of 147 athletes from various schools and academies came to compete.

Mokokchung Athletics, in collaboration with Nagaland Athletics, celebrated National Javelin Day by organizing a javelin throwing competition at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung on August 7. 

The Mokokchung Athletic Association, formed in 2021 but delayed in operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, hosted the event alongside the Nagaland Athletic Association. 

The competition featured events for boys and girls in the U-12, U-14, and U-16 categories. Approximately 50-60 children from various schools within Mokokchung town participated in the event. The best throwers were awarded prizes and sports equipment, encouraging them to continue their pursuit of excellence in athletics.
