A 35-year-old man committed suicide by jumping onto the metro track near Doddakalasandra Metro Station in Bengaluru at around 5:47 pm on Saturday. The incident took place on the Green Line of the metro, specifically between Silk Institute and Yalachenahalli.

The tragic incident led to an immediate suspension of metro services on this segment, though the rest of the route remains operational.

The police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and conducted an investigation. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has released basic information regarding the incident, confirming the disruption in metro traffic due to the suicide. BMRCL has been working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible. The reasons behind the man’s actions remain unknown, and officials are continuing their investigation to uncover more details.

Notably, on August 2, 2024, a 4-year-old boy accidentally jumped onto the track at Byappanahalli station while playing. The boy was rescued safely, but this incident also raised concerns about safety measures at metro stations to prevent such events.

Previously, on March 21, 2024, Dhruv Thakkar, a 19-year-old law student from the National Law School of India University, jumped onto the tracks at Attiguppe Metro Station, resulting in his death and a two-hour disruption of services on the Purple Line between Magadi Road and Challaghatta.

Earlier, on January 5, 2024, Sharon, a 23-year-old man from Kerala, survived a suicide attempt at Jalahalli station, causing temporary disruptions on the Green Line. He was reported to be dealing with depression following his father’s death shortly before the incident. These events have shown the impact of personal struggles on individuals and the resulting disruptions to public services.
