New Delhi: Rohit Sharma will arguably go down as one of the greatest players to have represented Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rohit is the most successful captain in MI’s history having led the franchise to an impressive five IPL titles since 2013 and has also been one of the leading run-getters of the team ever since he arrived in 2011.
However, Rohit was replaced as captain by Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024 with Hardik Pandya taking over the reins following his return to the five-time champions from his former team Gujarat Titans. The decision didn’t go down well with a section of MI fans, who believed Rohit deserved to continue leading the team and step down on his own terms.
There were also reports of unrest in the dressing room following the decision to sack Rohit and there were rumours that the players were divided into two groups. While the BCCI is yet to confirm the rules for retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction which is scheduled to take place later this year, speculations are rife that Rohit might part ways with Mumbai Indians after being sacked as captain.

1) Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are one of the franchises that might head into the IPL 2025 mega auction looking for a captain and Rohit Sharma can be an ideal choice. Faf du Plessis is already 40 and in the final lap of his career. RCB might look for someone experienced to replace him at the helm and there are not many better captains in the IPL than Rohit.
Roping in Rohit would also significantly bolster RCB’s Indian batting depth as it would reunite the Hitman with Virat Kohli. Having Rohit and Kohli batting together in the top 4 would be a dream pairing for any team and RCB might want to turn that dream into a reality of they get a chance to go after the Indian captain in the mega auction.
